One Week in Spain: Madrid, Sevilla, Granada & Barcelona
MADRID
Hotel (1 night): Fuencarral 100Â in Madrid City Center $143 (no longer listed for rent)
Day 1: We walked to the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor and Mercado de San Miguel.
Day 2: Woke up and enjoyed breakfast, then headed to the train station and took the 12pm AVE (speed train) to Seville, arriving at 2:30pm.
SEVILLA
Day 3: Spent the day exploring Sevilla. Walked to the Catedral de Sevilla & Giralda, Real Alcázar and the Plaza de España.
GRANADA
Day 4:Â We took a bus 1.5 hours to Granada to visit the Alhambra, then flew to Barcelona at 7:15pm, arriving at 8:45pm.
BARCELONA
Hotel (2 nights): Chic & Basic Lemon Boutique Hotel in Eixample $214
Day 5: We spent the day walking (and taking the metro) around Barcelona, stopping at the Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila (GaudÃ), La Pedrera, Placa de Catalunya, Las Ramblas and Camp Nou, the soccer stadium.
Day 6: Wine & Cava Full Day Excursion with Julia Travel to Jean Leon, Familia Torres and Freixenet wineries. Returned to Barcelona at 4:15pm and took the 5pm AVE to Madrid (3 hours).
MADRID
Hotel (2 nights): Room 007 Chueca Hostal in Madrid City Center $179
Day 7: We spent our last day wandering the streets of Madrid, exploring El Retiro Park, the Gran Via, and stopping at the Museo Nacional del Prado.
PACKING SUGGESTIONS
Travel light: use a Samsonite Underseat Carry-On or backpack and packing cubes
Bring a crossbody bag, travel wallet, portable charger, toiletry bag and European travel adapter (and this small travel adapter)
GETTING THERE
We flew Air Canada from Minneapolis (layover Toronto, plus Munich on the return) to Madrid. Our tickets were $524 per person.
