London 🇬🇧

Updated: Oct 30

2 Days in London

Hotel (2 nights): Hyatt Place London City East - 12,000 points/night with a rooftop bar and an incredible view (photo below), located blocks from the Tower Bridge

Day 1: We walked from the Hyatt to the Tower of London to see the Tower Bridge and River Thames and stopped for dinner on the way back at The White Hart for excellent Thai food and beers.

Day 2: The Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour was a perfect way to see all the sites. We took the Red Route with Big Bus ($48 per person) which included the following stops: Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, London Eye, and The Shard.

PACKING SUGGESTIONS

GETTING THERE

We had previously spent 10 days in Italy and 2 days in Barcelona. I transferred Chase points to Air France/KLM for three one-way tickets from Minneapolis to Rome (stopover in Amsterdam) for only 22,000 points + $105 taxes per person.

We flew on Vueling from Venice to Barcelona for $126 per person and from Barcelona to London on Ryan Air for $73 per person. We landed at Standsted Airport and took an easy 1 hour train ride into London for $19 per person.

To head home, we departed London Heathrow to JFK on Virgin Atlantic for 15,600 Chase points + $240 taxes per person and stayed the night at the Hyatt Regency JFK Airport for 15,000 points. The following morning we flew JFK to Minneapolis on Delta for 16,000 Skymiles + $6 tax per person.

All flights totaled 53,600 points + $550 per person. That was a decent deal for summer high-season travel to Europe.

BUDGET (3 people)

Flight: $1650 + 160,800 points

Hotels: $0

Transport: $281 ($56 airport train, $144 Big Bus, $31 the Tube, $50 JFK Uber/Lyft)

Restaurants: $322

TOTAL: $2253
