4 Days in Copenhagen & Sweden
COPENHAGEN
Day 1: We stopped in Priority Pass Krakow Business Lounge for an excellent breakfast before departing Krakow for a 1.5 hour flight to Copenhagen, Denmark. We hopped on the metro to Nyhavn (Kongens Nytorv Square) where we shared a Danish pølser with churros and cappuccino before taking a gorgeous $15 canal cruise for 1 hour passing by Amalienborg Palace, Frederik's Church, Church of Our Saviour, Christianshavns Kanal, Christiansborg Slot, Nikolaj Art Gallery and the old customs house turned restaurant.
After the Copenhagen canal cruise, we took the metro over the Øresund Bridge to Malmö, Sweden and checked into our gorgeous Hyatt Hotel with views of the Øresund strait, a narrow body of water separating Denmark and Sweden, connecting the North Sea with the Baltic Sea.
MALMÖ
Hotel (1 night): Story Hotel Studio Malmo - 6,500 points/night for a room with ocean views that includes an excellent breakfast on the top floor with sweeping views of the city skyline and the ocean
Day 2:Â Beautiful breakfast with stunning views followed by a 3 hour train to Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city and home of Volvo, to watch our niece play in the Gothia Cup.
GOTHENBURG
Hotel (2 nights): Clarion Hotel Draken - $180/night for a room with ocean views that includes one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had and a rooftop restaurant with excellent views of the city
Day 3: After an incredible breakfast feast, we explored the city. Gothenburg has lots of bicycles, slick public transpiration, clean streets, clean water, clean environment and an absolute ton of awesome restaurants with every cuisine imaginable.
Day 4: We should have bought our train tickets upon arrival because, with thousands of people departing Gothenburg today, they were sold out, so we ended up on a 6 hour coach bus to Stockholm for our last night in beautiful Sweden.
STOCKHOLM
Hotel (1 nights): Story Hotel Signalfabriken - 5,000 points/night for a room with free breakfast in a cute boutique hotel a few feet from the subway stop
Day 4 continued: Once we arrived in Stockholm, we locked our backpacks in a large locker at the bus station for $29 (for 4 hours) and headed out on foot to see the sites of Gamla Stan (Old Town): City Hall, Riddarholmen Church, House of Nobility, Stockholm Cathedral, Royal Palace Drottningholm, Stortorget, Nobel Peace Prize Museum, Mårten Trotzigs Gränd (Stockholm's narrowest street), Österlånggatan street, and the Opera House. After hours of sightseeing, we headed back toward the bus station, enjoying dinner overlooking the square, and hopped on the subway to our hotel.
GETTING THERE
See Budapest and Krakow trip for information on how we arrived in Europe for our summer adventure.
We headed to the Stockholm Airport bright and early for our 6am flight to Frankfurt on Lufthansa. During our layover, we had a bite to eat in the T1 Luxx Lounge, then boarded our 11am flight to Minneapolis on Lufthansa. We booked a round trip flight for $566 per person (so we will be returning to Europe for the return trip at a later date) and paid $132 to select our seats for the FRA-MSP leg.
